Superhero movies have taken a recent turn in pitting them against each other, and the new era begins with Batman and Superman facing off. Interestingly enough, the marketing behind the movie may throw some casual fans off. Even though both DC Comics superheroes disagree about how the world should be maintained, that doesn’t mean it’s just about one trying to take out the other — that’s only a small part of the film. Here are some other things you probably didn’t know about Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Debut For Wonder Woman
This was the first Hollywood film for Wonder Woman. Despite the film getting overall negative criticism, most fans and reviewers praised the movie for bringing in the heroine.
‘The Dark Knight Returns’
Director Zack Snyder’s adaptation was heavily inspired from Frank Miller’s graphic novel that pit Superman and Batman against each other.
Both the Superman and Batman suits cost around $100,000 each. When you compare it to the $250 million budget, it doesn’t seem so bad.
Anybody that posted pictures from the set on social media would have been fined $5 million. Everybody that worked on set needed to sign a contract saying they wouldn’t reveal anything.
Worked On Since 2001
Script and first production of this project that was eventually scrapped began shortly after the turn of the millennium. 15 years and multiple production projects scrapped later, it finally hit the big screen.
Release Date Moved Three Times
The movie was first delayed nearly a year from Summer 2015 because production wouldn’t hit their expected finish date. However May 6, 2016 conflicted with Captain America: Civil War, so it was again moved up to March 25.
Ben Affleck’s Third Superhero
This wasn’t the first time Affleck has starred in a movie as a superhero. He was in the critically-panned Daredevil back in 2003 and played George Reeves in Hollywoodland in 2006, in which the character he played was cast as Superman in a ’50s TV show.
Screenwriter Also Wrote ‘Argo’
Chris Terrio scored the screenwriting job with David S. Goyer after winning the Academy Award for another Ben Affleck movie, Argo.
Multiple Popular Directors Worked On It
McG, J.J. Abrams, and Wolfgang Peterson all were listed as the director when a new project continued starting up for the movie.
‘I Am Legend’ Advertisement
A billboard ad appeared in the 2007 Will Smith film. It didn’t tell the future, it was just that a different form of the film was in production at the same time I Am Legend was.
